Love the image. I half though tit was a puppy with he short snout on this one. Must just be the way his fat head is rumppled. His face/head looks natural in the add as if someone was actually holding him from behind.

I love your description of rotties. We have a male and female and they fit the description so well. The male is just a big marshmallow and will sit and pose however you place him, and even wear silly clothes without complaint.
The little girl... if there isn't a treat involved she won't even consider it worth her effort. Even then she'll only give us a minute or two of her time.
But oh, so, cuddly when not in front of the camera.

Anthony,
well, actually he is a puppy -- just 20 months old. He's just a big puppy. No, I mean BIG puppy!

I've found that the boys don't really mature physically until they are 3 or 4 years old (and mentally, maybe never ). At this point, Chili has a lot of muscle to put on and he'll get wider as his chest drops and bottom-line fills out. He's a nice boy. Whether he's a top show dog is another question entirely. It takes more than being gorgeous. You have to be a showman and you have to love to be in the ring.

Thanks for the compliments.

Jim

Thanks, Julie. Trying to make the ads for different dogs look different when there are limited options in Dog News because of their lousy reproduction. We'll see if they can hold the black on this one without turning it into ink spots.

Julie,
it depends on where you want the spread (how far up front) but it ranges from $1,950 to $1,500 for a 4-color spread.

Single page, 4-color ranges from $650 to a preferred page at $800-$1,500 again depending on how up-front you want your ad to be. And those are just the media (placement) costs. For most folks, there is also the cost of creating the ad.

You want to play at the top level, you need to have both a good dog and a lot of $$$$ .

McGuire's breeder was talking about getting a backer for him, having Angie handle him and really specialing him. I just don't know if I want that sort of life for him though. I don't think he would be unhappy going with Angie around the country(he loves her) but, I would lose a pet and not sure I want to do that

Those are some pricey prices!

Julie,
we thought about it for Rowdy when he was 4 but then asked the fundamental question. Not how. But why?

Rowdy would have held up to the lifestyle but he would never have been home; we'd never see him win; we'd never get enough stud services to cover the costs of Specialing him and we'd have to share him (and ownership decisions) with a backer.

After a 15-minute discussion, we decided to get him TDI-certified instead and share him with the world while keeping him in our home.

While I realize that show dogs become extensions of our egos, it was important for us to remember that Rowdy is a member of our family and there was no amount of "glory" that would replace having him with us. We don't regret the decision.

But lots of people do it. And they keep me in business .
