I did these on Monday Evening. They are my first stab at sugar gliders - the lighting was poor in the apartment so I had a lot of work to do with the AF. Surprisingly I got a lot of winners. They move VERY fast. The poor gentleman who owns them was bitten in a bunch of places by the end of the evening. :P

The batch with the bag was a bit harder to take. First, the squirrels were moving much faster and second, I wanted to make sure that the bags color was accurate - making sure not to overpower with the flash. I think I got it right.

LOL...so THAT is a sugar glider!

Very cute little critters.

Color on the bag looks great and, I must admit, James, I'm growing fond of your focusing technique with these smaller animals.

Love the bag shots - especially that second last one.

Nice work.

Duane

Hi Duane,

Thank you very much for the response. I am pretty happy with the shots. I just did a rabbit shoot that I will be publishing once I return from Merry Old England.

Jim the sugar glider would probably relate to that too, no wonder it bit the owner, who probably might not realise that here in their "native land" they are on the edge of the endangered species list (loss of habitat, feral cat and fox predation etc), totally protected wild-life, not allowed to be kept as "pets" except by those with permits and good reason. There is also an illicit smuggling to overseas trade in them which does not help the numbers.

But James, that little guy looks in lovely condition and well cared for, beautiful shots in the blue sleeping bag, what a lovely assignment to work with, bites or not.

James,
I'm not criticizing the shoot; I'm saying that it's not my game. A few years ago, some people asked me to shoot their birds -- lovely collection of parrots and cockatiels. I shot what I thought was a lovely collection of images but they were not what the client wanted. Birds are shot a particular way and anything else is not acceptable.

So now I focus on dogs. I know how to pose them so they look their best and I'm more of an expert than most owners. But I'll stick to the dogs. Other species are beyond my knowledge and desire.

LOL, Jim, I never thought that you were criticizing (sp) the work. I am trying to develop a wide vareity of work with which to show. I am in the process of building a new site, much of it will focus on my pet photography work in addition to weddings, etc.

You guys will next see Mr. Wiggles, a bunny that I photographed last week prior to going on the trip.

Awesome images. The black background on the last shot seems to be washed out. My guess is that this was the hardest one to produce because of the glider's dark hair color on the black backdrop. The others are great.
