That one was tied to a tree in Central Park:) He got tangled in some sort of orangeish material.

Seriously, nice shot James, that is up close!

Tony, interesting trick, but it kind of goes against the "expose to the right" philosophy. How is the noise when you do this? I do understand that sometimes a noisy shot is better then one with motion blur!

Thanks, Jeff

"So how did you get so close? Those aren't bad for a city slicker! "

LOL. Thanks for the compliment. Mostly, I used natural blinds and I am very patient. I was probably closer than I should have been, however, I don't think either he or I felt in danger. When he finally did see me, he seemed more puzzled as to figure out how to make me out.

jeff, it goes directly against the expose right philosophy, but some of the best wildlife shots i've seen go against a lot of what we consider proper shooting philosophy.

that's not the best way, but sometimes it's the only way. That method is my, "save-your-behind" from going home with nothing philosophy. The noise can be a bit of a problem, but it's easy to fix.

Tony, good philosophy:) I am amazed at how far you can push process in a RAW workflow with minimal noise. That is, I’m surprised at the difference in noise levels between pushing RAW vs. JPG. I too have recently went beyond my usual comfort zone and took the shots anyway, only to be pleasantly surprised. The increase level of noise, was fairly well controlled with a pass of Neat image.

Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Since switching to Capture One for processing, I have not once had to use Neat Image with the exception of two Bar Mitzvah shots that were under-exposed. Processing in RAW really helps - though it takes inordinate amounts of time to process as compared to just opening jpegs. I understand why most pros are shooting .jpg these days. It is just faster.

Having said this, I only shoot raw. I like the insurance that I get out of it.

James,
That is interesting. I too noticed a lot less noise in the RAW Workflow. I only recently switched to RAW, I too enjoyed the ease of use JPGs offered. Like a lot of others, I have been a little frustrated with the Witebalance inadequacies and bought a WhiBal set. I worked them in JPG for a while, but found RAW was easier for that. I have been using RSE so far and am fairly pleased. My PC and RSE are pretty quick so the impact on time is minimal but time is one thing I am afraid about when I switch to Capture. I figured I would wait for the new release since it is supposed to be a big jump. My PS package, is PSE2, old. But with the Hidden power tools, I have been more then happy with it until now. I want to process in PS with the full 12bit image or is that 16 bit. Either way PSE2 only supports up to 8. With RSE, I have had some color issues, and thought or hear that it’s improved in Capture. I look forward to processing all in one package and am eagerly awaiting Capture NX. So Since my version of Neatimage only comes with a PS Plugin and no Capture NX Plugin, I hope you are right:)

Thanks, Jeff

If you buy Capture now, you will get a free upgrade to the new Capture NX.

I was thinking that too. Do you believe that will be the case or are you sure? I suppose either way, even if they did ask for an upgrade price, it would still be the same as buying the new version for the higher price. That of course assumes it will be a higher price.

Thanks, Jeff

I got that info from a manager of Nikon USA.

Michael D. Rubin

I hope this is a good enough reference.

Jeff, if you give me your e-mail, I will forward the complete e-mail to you that I received from Michael Rubin.

Thank you David,
The email is unnecessary, I/you convinced me in my last post that I should just pick it up. I think I will go ahead and download it. I got a bunch of new Water fall photos today to process:) Yeah I know, more Waterfalls. I did run them through RSE, but I look forward to seeing what Capture has to offer.

Thanks, Jeff
