Wow Marty, Thanks for sharing. I was unaware we had Antelope in the USA like that. Of course I knew about Buffalo. I like #3 the best.

Thanks, Jeff

The antelope are all over in Wyoming, I have seen 50 at a time there- less common in Utah though. Technicly, they are actually Pronghorn Sheep, I believe- but they are so commonly called Antelope that everyone knows them as such- Antelope are only seen in Africa unless I'm mistaken.
I am not sure why, but my focus wasn't that sharp in some of those- I'm thinking I may have had the IS(100-400) on, not good on a tripod but I'm not sure and no way to check- either that or I was thrown off because I had a half an eye open on the Buffalo- didn't want them pissed off....

OK, I have heard of Pronghorn Sheep, but I had no idea what they looked like.

As for the softness, was there any heat rising off the ground that day? Almost looks like thermals.

Thanks, Jeff

Great too see that you got out to antelope island. If you get to spend a little more time out west, and drive arround eastern wyoming much you'll see litterally thousands of proghore or as the locals call them, Speedgoats.

Just an observation, those shots look way over cooked in PS. I recomend that you back off the sharpening just at the point you start to see that halo. In those shots, the halo is huge, which tells me that they have been way over sharpend.

Good luck and keep photographing wildlife!

Thanks Tony- trying to sharpen them into focus - still leaning to the IS theory

IS is a very useful tool, however it's not magic. I'd shoot the focal lengh for your shutter speed when youre streached out to 400. You can get away with one stop less, but you better be on a tripod or a support of another kind. It's real hard to sharpen out of focus shots. Youre better off to up the ISO, shoot RAW and under exposing the shots by a stop or two then bring back the exposure in PS.

The Pronghorn Antelope is a magnificent creature. They are the fastest land mammal on the North American continent. This is one I took on my trip in July:

So how did you get so close? Those aren't bad for a city slicker!
