It looks like I may have my 5d Mark III this week! This is not guaranteed, but Gary (Hunts) said that he may be able to accomplish this. I am excited because next week I am photographing at the Brooklyn Mutt Show. It will be a great opportunity to play with the new AF system. As anyone knows who photographs dark dogs, getting focus can be a real PITA.

A watched pot never seems to boil, does it?

What you are feeling reminds me of that Heinz commercial where the guy waits & waits for the Ketchup to come out of the bottle while Carol King's song "Anticipation" plays in the background. smile

I know . . . I'm showing my age. A lot of folks here may not remember the days when Ketchup didn't come in a plastic squeeze bottle. BTW, the secret to starting the flow of ketchup in those small mouthed glass bottles is to point the bottle at a 45 degree angle toward the plate with the little embossed "57" on the shoulder of the bottle pointing down. Then lightly tap the "57" on the knuckle of your index finger. Works like a charm.

Jim,
Carly Simon's Anticipation. You're old but apparently not as old as me smile.

Right you are, Sir. blush

Don't know if I'm older or younger than you, but apparently I'm old enough that my memory is starting to fade. cry

Ah, well, 1971 wasn't an especially memorable year for me anyway. laugh

Hey Folks,

My 5diii shipped today. I will have it tomorrow - in time for the Brooklyn Mutt Show on Saturday. I am pretty excited.

LOL, I hope so! I know I have been pretty bad with updating the front page recently. The Brooklyn Mutt Show seems like a nice place to test the camera out a bit. I wish that CO had its raw converter available for the 5diii. I hate using the Canon software. I will probably attempt to color balance and shoot raw+jpeg.

The 5d Mark III came in today. I have not had much time to play with it, but the interface is different enough from the 5d II that it will be my back-up camera tomorrow - at least until I get comfortable with it.

First impressions? AF is super super fast. Also, the body feels much 'grippier' than the old body. It is really nice. I did some 'fun' iso 25,800 shots of Chanthee and I thought they came out suprisingly nice...shooting raw only, not jpeg.

James

PS No grip yet - but it is still really nice.
