my Sigma 80-400 lens is still "in the shop", so i figured i'd take the ol' FZ20 with my TCON-14B teleconverter on it down to my favorite park this afternoon. the place was dead... nothing worth a shot, until i saw a green heron fly across the bay into a small lagoon. i went around the bay to a viewing platform overlooking the lagoon, and what should i see but the heron, perched on a tree branch a few feet above the water! well, needless to say, i groused and grumbled at not having my 30D and the Sigma for such a golden opportunity, but with the converter on, the FZ20 gives me about the same "reach", just not quite as crisp and clear, so i rattled off some shots, and as it turned out, the FZ20 did a respectable job in relief... .

yes it did, i'm impressed with what you were able to achieve with that camera, nice job. I have one comment. It looks like early morning or evening light, right? they look a bit warm and a bit flat to me, so I'd just cool the WB a bit and add some saturation . . . this may bit bit much, and it looks like there's some noise, but I think you can, with a little PS get those shots to really pop!

yep, it was about 5:30 PM when i got these. i like the warm light, but you're right, a little "cooling" might help. your edit looks a bit TOO blue to me, and a bit noisier than the original, but i'll give it a try and see what i get. the FZ20 does produce some noise, and i expect a trip through NeatImage would take care of that...

Hey Rocky,

Great shots. I was actually thinking the same thing as Tony - that they appeared just a slight bit warm, as if the WB were set to 'shade.' However, very nicely done.

James
